I don't recall my PS3 (fat) ever freezing during a game but it would freeze all the damn time during browser use. I'm talking probably over a hundred times.
Fortunately there's a switch in the back for that on mine and only once did I have a problem when it did its check/restore function. Everything on my console was still there, but all of my videos, pictures, etc were rearranged and (I think) renamed as well.
But yeah, since you have a Slim, if it ever freezes again:
