The game will sell and it will also move some systems. There are a couple of ADs on TV right now, which should strengthen the popularity of the Wii U not as an upgrade of Wii but a "new" console.
To all people that compare this game to Pikmin or W101 (saleswise), I have an appropriate anecdote:
I remember the time back in June or so when my excitement level for Pikmin III was insane. So during another boring lesson I turned to my classmates (4 gamers in my class back then, 1 PC, 2 Xbox and 1 PS) and gave full scopes about it.
No one knew what Pikmin was. But it started a little general discussion about Nintendo and their franchises, and guess what?
They all turned out to be secret Mario lovers (at some point in their lifes they all played Mario).
So I don't know whether this is representative for the whole gaming community, but it certainly shows the difference in popularity of some Nintendo franchises.
Mario sells because it's Mario (and because the game looks fantastic).
