No friend codes at all on the Wii U. I think the 3DS is doing away with it too--or at least they were. We have to see how Miiverse works for it when it finally launches. Even so, the 3DS friend codes are about as annoying as exchanging phone numbers. You only have to do it once so it's nowhere near as bad as the DS/Wii version.
