I don't see why it would.

2014 isn't a significant year for the character Yoshi. Those Mario, Zelda and Luigi years were because of anniversaries; 2010 Mario year was because it was the 25th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros., 2011 was a Zelda year because The Legend of Zelda series turned 25 an 2013 was Luigi's year because the character turned 30. All milestones, they weren't 'just because'.

2014 is nothing for Yoshi, so why celebrate? 2015 could be a Yoshi year, that's when Yoshi turns 25. However, I don't think it'll happen, because both Yoshi's New Island and Yarn Yoshi are probably 2014 releases and Yoshi himself, with all due respect because I like the character as well, isn't an important enough character for Nintendo.

Long story short; I don't see much incentive for a full-scale Yoshi year.

Except it is a significant Year for Yoshi thanks to all those games, which I'm saying is reason enough for it to be the Year of Yoshi, but you'd know that already if you read the OP.
No there isn't a significant anniversary or anything, but who says there has to be?
