How did I miss this thread?

I have to disagree with you, on Gravity and on your estimation of film critics.

Gravity is one of the best movies of the year. Bullock gives the performance of her life, the direction by Cuaron is masterful -- he manages to balance grand ideas and vistas with smaller, intimate moments -- and the movie's conception and vision of space is the best since 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Now, the film critics, who are often dismissed as snobbish and out of touch with the whims of he general public. Well, like it or not, that's their job. They exist to educate and inform popular opinion, not reflect it. The best critics have studied and watched movies from all genres, from all eras, from all regions of the world. They have made it their job to study the art and design of movies. They simply know better.
