The controls are the absolute heart of the gameplay in any action game, and they should always be at the center of gameplay design. You're supposed to feel connected to the main character, not hamstrung by a poor control setup. There is nothing more annoying in a game than when you can't make your character do what you want him to do |
I always thought the whole reason behind RE control scheme was because of the limitation of the PS so to help improved framerate. ( there's also the fact the D-pad was still used for most PS games) As in PS days you were lucky to get 30 fps in most games. There was a Dino series (forgot the name) and then Onimusha which also had these controls. I was happy when I learn that the first DMC moved away from RE controls.
