Aonuma is simply the wrong man for the job. Somebody who doesn't like Zelda shouldn't be in charge of the Zelda team. I bet the ideas of young developers that Aonuma was refering to were things like: 1) Give the player the sword early. |
I don't know.
I've liked every Zelda game so far so something must be done right. I don't feel Aonuma needs to go. Though I agree Aonuma's decisions have been hit or miss, especially 'miss' in his newer games. On one hand he knocks it out of the park as one of the lead-designers for Ocarina of Time, on the other he allows some of the most important aspects of Zelda to take a backseat (or be non-existent) in Skyward Sword. And yes, the handholding. I'm glad Miyamoto turned the table.
I know Aonuma is a bit burned out on Zelda, or at least, that's what he's implying every once in a while, so maybe it is best for him to move to another franchise for a couple of years. Thing is, I don't know who should replace him. I think the only ones undoubtedly capable of such position are someone like Tezuka and Miyamoto himself. But those two are already 'above' such a position in the hierarchy (and they probably wouldn't want it anyway)...
