Star Citizen will never be dumbed down for consoles, says Roberts, but next-gen could happen one day

Owlchemy’s Dyscourse To Feature Schafer, McMillen And More

By John Walker on November 18th, 2013 at 8:00 pm.

Alec mentioned Dyscourse a couple of weeks back, rather rightly pointing out how good it looks. I’d have thought it would be a sure thing to see its Kickstarter funds ding the modest $40,000 they’re after in moments, and far beyond. Yet it’s only reached just over $13k at this point. Weird. Maybe the news that the likes of Tim Schafer, Ed McMillen and Robin Hunicke are contributing personalities to the project?

Glitch Free: Art From Closed MMO Enters Public Domain

By Graham Smith on November 18th, 2013 at 5:00 pm.

Glitch was an ambitious 2D MMO that focused on crafting and socialising instead of combat or grinding. It launched its original beta in early 2009, came out of beta in September 2011, went back into beta that November due to a lack of accessibility or depth, and finally closed down in November 2012.

Or maybe that wasn’t final. Maybe that was just the beginning of something else. Tiny Speck, the developers of Glitch, have just released all the game’s artwork and some of its code into the public domain. That means you can now use it for whatever you want, including new commercial games.

Crew Control: The Mandate Interview

By Adam Smith on November 18th, 2013 at 12:00 pm.

Currently, I don’t think there’s a more interesting Kickstarter project than The Mandate. When I first saw footage, I was confused – was it a 4X space game, an RPG or a turn-based tactical combat sort of a thing? It contains all of those aspects in one great smouldering fusion of sci-fi concepts but that’s not all. The Mandate is a lore-rich story of Tsars in space, with procedurally generated galactic sectors and strongly defined crew members, each with their own personality, skills and cultural attachments. It’s a complex game and hard to summarise, so I spoke to Ole Herbjørnsen (Executive Producer) and Michael Douse (Community Manager) of Perihelion to uncover some details. There’s an enormous amount of information about this hugely promising game below.

Eve Online: Rubicon will kick off a "multi-expansion" race to reach Star Gated new galaxies

Comments1

You might have heard about the fictional hook of Eve Online’s new expansion, the fruitily named Rubicon - dangerous and forbidden ghost sites, which promise unpreceded technological discoveries. But you couldn’t possibly have guessed what it’ll build to - a race to reach and colonise new tracts of space in a game where land, in an abstract sense, is everything.

League of Legends preseason changes continue: roles and positions see improvements

Comment

Riot are continuing to tinker with League of Legends during the game's preseason sleepytime, having already taken a scalpel to the League system, as well as changed how map vision works. Now they're casting a critical eye over their support roles and jungler positions, while also introducing a host of improvements to the game flow of Summoner's Rift. With all of these transformations taking place over the coming days and weeks, Riot have helpfully launched a mini-site dedicated to tracking League of Legend's Preseason changes.

Parasite lost: co-operative alien-hunt Mush playable in browsers from today

Comments1

If games were hashed out according to the shape and sound of their names in a process I’ve just now christened Onomatopoeic Development, Mush would be a slightly rough physicsy platformer, starring a malleable and squishily-animated protagonist.

It’d be Gish 2, and the appropriate reaction would be something along the lines of: “Okay, huh”. But Mush isn’t an amorphous platformer, and nor is it an “Okay, huh” kind of game. It’s a multiplayer browser game about waking up aboard a ship with 15 other players - two of whom are infected by an angry alien parasite. The Mush.

The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot crashes onto Steam Early Access

Comment

The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot is the cutest looking dungeon crawler known to man and it’s appeared on Steam Early Access. Although it will eventually be free to play Ubisoft are selling entrance to the game’s closed beta for £15 a head.

It's nice to see companies like Ubisoft running good longform betas to run their game through the paces. Mighty Quest's been in closed beta for more than a year now, looks like Ubi are taking their time to get this one right.

Heroes & Generals Manstein update brings destroyable fences and fog of war

Comment

“The fences, they’ll have to go,” said the general to his men, remembering the harrowing events of the 1927 picnic. Till now his men looked at him quizzically thinking “But the fences are a permanent fixture. It would take godly power to shift them.” But, with the newly released Manstein update, those fences will fall beneath the tread of a tank and shatter when shot with a gun.

That’s not all the Manstein update does. Not by a long way.

Activision Claims That There Is No Patch For Call of Duty: Ghosts PC On The Horizon

And we are going in circles. A couple of days ago, we informed you about a possible patch that could fix the ridiculous RAM requirement for Call of Duty: Ghosts. Activision claimed back then that it was looking into this issue, however it seems that a PC patch is not a priority for the company. When a fan asked yesterday about a patch for Call of Duty: Ghosts PC in order to fix the game’s fps and lag issues, Activision claimed that there won’t be such a patch anytime soon. Continue reading

Hilarious Times Part #9999 – Need For Speed: Rivals Does Not Support Driving Wheels

Man, it seems that EA wants to simply ruin the NFS franchise. We first got the 30fps lock and according to EA’s official Q&A page, the game won’t support any driving wheels. Yeap, a driving game that does not support wheels. Yes, we’re talking about an arcade title but last time I checked, all arcade driving games (from Outrun to Sega Rally and Ridge Racer) supported driving wheels. Continue reading
