Of course Wii Sports won't perform as well on the Wii U as it did on the Wii, because the Wii U doesn't have better motion controllers, so online play is going to be biggest new addition for a new game in the series. But even if you expect it to sell only 3-5m copies, that's still fairly big. Nintendo owns a major stake in Monolith Soft, so it is almost as good as a first party studio. They have still made one or the other game for Namco-Bandai since then though. X, just like Xenoblade before it, is a first party game. |
They wholly-own it, or very nearly so. Per wiki
"The company was founded on October 1, 1999 by producer Hirohide Sugiura and director Tetsuya Takahashi after they left Square Co. and accepted an investment from Namco.[1] As of May 6, 2007, Nintendo owned controlling interest in the company after Namco Bandai sold 80% of its 96% stake in Monolith Soft to Nintendo. This went into effect May 1, 2007.[2] Later Namco sold the remaining 16%, making Monolith Soft a first-party developer for Nintendo."
