In actual purchase numbers, it probably isn't. It might be close though. It would depend on what percentage of owners you consider "hardcore" -- my guess is less than half for the Wii, which would work out to around 8-12 million.
At the news/discussion outlets I go to, I also don't find discussion on the Wii to be particularly dominant. Last year the platform discussions seemed to be all about the PS3, with all the questions floating around about whether it would boom or bust. For games, it was more about the 360: Bioshock, Halo 3, Mass Effect. Maybe it's just the sites I visit.
