Now you could argue that the 3DS will sell more because of this game, but, honestly, I don't think that there is need for this game in order for the 3DS to sell, as it has a lot of compelling games on it's own, which Wii U kinda does not (yet). Basically, Nintendo would profit more from highly increased Wii U sales than having the increase split between Wii U and 3DS (even if the combined increase for both systems would be higher than the increase it would cause for Wii U were it an exclusive). I also believe that, would this game be exclusive to either platform, it would sell more systems of that particular platform, hence why I believe that the game's system selling capabilities are diminished by releasing it on both. The point you are getting on to is that, overall, it will sell more systems than it would have being exlusive to one of them, and while that is true, I point back to my argument that, in my opinion, Nintendo needs Wii U sales more badly than 3DS sales, thus rendering the higher number of Wii U sales more important than a higher number overall, but a lower number for Wii U itself, making this a not so fortunate decision in my book. On another note: While I'm referring to the 3DS and Wii U version as one game at the moment, I hope (and believe) that they will be different enough to actually warrant looking at both individually. Sadly, even if this will be the case, the general public will refer to it as one game. Otherwise that would be a best-case-scenario. |
Except Nintendo overall will profit. More games sales overall, and more systems sold overall. It's fine to think that Wii U sales are more important, but that's just your opinion. I'm speaking purely from a profit based standpoint because I'm sure that's what Nintendo being the business that it is cares about most. Because of that, it makes more sense for them to want to sell 3DS's more than Wii U's, as they're making money on the former but losing money on the latter.
And yes, believe or not, the 3DS does need games to sell just like any system. It seems everyone forgot how it was selling before Mario came out. Stop releasing games for the system and watch it sales plummet back to pre-Mario numbers. That's why they really need SSB4 because look at the 3DS's 2014 line-up. Nothing major asside from SSB4. Infact overall the 3DS's line-up pales in comparison to the Wii U's, and if we were to launch align both consoles, you'd see that Nintendo has been supporting the Wii U far more than the 3DS up to the second year atleast, because we don't what the Wii U's third year will look like.
