But Super Robot Wars is about an Underdog nation(earth) vs an evil empire with overwhelming power... (though an empire of nations) who are often working for a greater power. (Like in OG1.)

I still can't understand what was going on in OG2. I was better off borrowing the Japanese import games from my friend.

There were Aliens from the first game, but they weren't really involved other then being used by the aliens of the this game, but then alternate reality people show up, then other aliens, and then you have the DC forces of course... and i'm pretty sure another group of aliens showed up... or maybe that was my imagination. That's what happens I guess when your story is based off of a story tied together just to star a bunch of famous giant robots together.

Lot of fun though.

It's one of my favorite SRPG series.

Honestly i'd like to see more storys like Front Mission 3... where you are a plucky unit on one side of two fairly equal sides and your actions turn the tide.

Or just a SRPG where for once you aren't the end all be all supergods that all videogame characters are and you main goal is to be a mercenary group that just gains money and fame by completeing missions... and trying to not die. Choose your missions, have a fame counter for devestating your enemies and the like, advertise in different areas and hire new people who have contacts or just make new contacts to get new missions etc.

Work both sides... or even three or four sides in a massive war that happens somewhat procedurally in a game played by the AI vs itself so you don't know which side is going to win, and where your missions and jobs can make a difference but not in an over the top way... lead some charaterzation through a few mandatory quests some characters will insist you take or you lose them...

Have popularity in different nations, so if a nation that is too hostile to you wins you either have to fight against the odds vs it or escape... etc.

OG2 Explanation:

The Einst never saved Excellen from dying in the crash so her parents created Lemon. Due to not having Excellen and the space tragedy killing more of the Branstein family (either Raidiese or Elzam), the world turned out differently. Ultimately Kyosuke's mech was never named the Alt Eisen and remained only the Gesepenst Mk III. The ATX team was never fully formed and eventually became the "Beowulves." The SRX project was also never continued.

Vindle and Lemon were defeated by Kyosuke's Beowulves and used Helios's (Major Gilliam) XN device to teleport across dimensions into the OG1 dimension. Their goal was to create universes filled with battle as fighting was what they lived for. Being kicked out of their own dimension they attempted to use the OG1 dimension to build robots and mecha to send to the other dimension and accomplish their goals. Of course, to do that they needed Helios to make the XN device stable. Its instability is the reason for all the time discrepencies between jumping. They also needed to defeat the OG1 groups and Axel had his own beef with Kyosuke.

Meanwhile, the Inspectors (another variant of humans) had judged the Earth and its people too violent and savage to allow for continued existence. They either needed to destroy the earthlings or restrain them. Wendolo really liked the destroy them all idea.

Next, we had the Neo-DC remnants lead by Col. Van. They aimed to bring the false goal of Bian Zoldark to reality. Bian initiated the original war to unify Earth under the EFA knowing the DC would lose. It was no coincidence that the DC attracted all the corrupt personnel of the EFA and, of course, the UCC. Purifying the EFA and honing them to a state where they could fight the Aerogators was the original goal. Too bad Col. Van and the rest of the Neo-DC never understood that.

Finally, we had the Einst who saw everyone fighting and just decided to say "SCREW THIS" and press the reset button on the whole lot of them.  They had the simple goal of killing everyone and starting over.

Then we have the protagonist teams...etc.

And the rest of the game consists of each side scheming with one another, plotting, double-crossing, and even openly fighting each other. The aerogators of OG1 made random appearances but otherwise weren't involved.

That should clear up a lot of the confusion. ^_~
