Download it now just in case on the 15th the servers are clogged as millions try to update simultaneously. You more than likely will be fine, but it's smart to have a plan b.

Why would I want to put my console in recovery mode?  

Ohh so it's in case of the US launch, thought it has something to do with the bricking consoles I've heard about, although didn't dig deep into the topic. No worries then, two weeks for me still
