Nintendo was in a stronger position moving into this generation than with the GameCube

Wii sold 3 million hardware in total in 2011. This maybe more than what the GameCube sold 2005, but can we really brag about this momentum?

edit: Wow, Wii sold around 12 million in 2011. But it sold near 5-6 million in 2012 when Wii U launched in the middle November. The momentum is definitely down but the Wii U sales are not increasing in response, though.

Nintendo's lack of support to keep Wii relevant in its closing years have negatively impacted the Wii brand. Whatever is selling the Wii U this holiday and beyond isn't the Wii or Nintendo brand name.

edit: I agree that Wii U won't sell only 20 million max only because I think its early to say anything about a system's future based on its first year if developers are still making games for it in the future.
