I remember when there were rumors that Nintendo won't go with a powerful console after Gamecube, people were readying the showels to burry the company...

There is absolutely no reason to fire Iwata ATM or him to resign. Nintendo's portable is staying relevant in the world where most kids have smartphones, and Wii U, while it most probably will be another Gamecube, will generate profit when all is said and done.

Nintendo amassed a pile of cash that would enable them to fail 2 or 3 generations in a row.

What do you expect that will happen to Nintendo if the management caves under investor pressures and Iwata resigns. The new CEO will most likely hear the yells of the investors rather than gamers in the forums. So, nintendo starts offering their games on mobiles, making 3DS sales effectively dead and burrying their handheld division. Now the home console division is on it's own, and another Wii U could effectively kill the whole hardware department. And all of a sudden, Nintendo = Sega.

Yeah, so I would like for Iwata to very much stay as CEO.
