Yes, there is a point, consoles are sold based not only on what is coming very soon, but on the promise of what may come in the future. Tell me how much people will buy a PS4 and Xbox One because the next kingdom heart will be available who knows when?, same thing applies for Final Fantasy XV, hell some bought their PS3 just because FF versus XIII was coming (and it never did). You don't sell based only on current games, you also sell based on a bright future (and hype) and Nintendo needs to sell as much as possible consoles to get support from third parties. |
That's true, however they already announced plenty of 2014 games to look foward to, including the biggest ones being Smash n Kart. Nintendo will be focusing on those games after this holiday season is over. Also, I thought the Wii already established the fact that it doesn't matter how many consoles Nintendo sells, third partys will never fully support them. That's why they should stop wasting their time and resources trying to appease them, and instead focus on the third partys that are on their side and increase internal development to the point where they can make 12+ games a year for each of their systems.
