No it doesn't. DMC, Ninja gaidena and Bayonetta are also more free flowing than God of war but their not button mashers. 

That is often the excuse hack and slash developers make when they didn't even create a combat system. They created an attack button and called it a game. Ninja Gaiden is also probably the least free flowing hack and slash game in existence. It is also a button masher. Being hard doesn't change that.

Dynasty warrior is a button masher not ninja gaiden in my opinion. but eh.
