Steam Static domain now in Valve’s hands
Valve has purchased the domain name SteamStatic.com. The domain’s WhoIs records show Valve Corporation as the registrant, having picked up the name earlier this month. Fusible reports Valve transferred the domain to its own name servers this weekend. It doesn’t yet resolve, and there’s no clue as to what it might refer to – could Valve have yet another hardware or service surprise on the way?
Thanks, GameInformer.
Trion Worlds registers several domains related to “Trove”
Trion Worlds, its CEO Scott Hartsman, and regular registrar Mark Monitor have all made a number of domain registrations related to the word “Trove”. Fusible spotted the registrations, which include variants like PlayTrove.com and TroveGame.com. All the domains have been transferred to Trion Worlds’ own domain server, too. No word on what this could mean, although a new game named Trove seems pretty likely, y’know? Trion is a US MMO publisher best known for Rift and Defiance.

Humble Store launches. Daily sales to celebrate
CommentThe folk over at Humble Bundle have moved beyond sporadic bundles of joy to a constant storefront of special deals. There are to be daily sales, too, so this looks set to be a digital store to return to regularly.
The store won’t replace the Humble Bundles or Weekly Deals, instead it will run separately.
FTL: Advanced Edition adds a hangar-full of new content. Chris Avellone comes on board as a writer
Comments1FTL merged a space-based roguelike with elements of a choose your own adventure book and, when it was released last year, it stole a lot of the hearts of the team here at PCGN. (We’d like those back, Subset Games. There’s blood everywhere.) It’s set to do it all over again next year as Subset have announced they’re releasing a free update.
FTL: Advanced Edition will bring new weapons, drones, augments, systems, enemies, and missions. In a hookup that’s a little dreamlike, Chris Avellone - yes, that Chris Avellone - has supplied his writing talents to the new update.
EverQuest Next Landmark Founder’s Packs let you buy into next year’s alpha
CommentEverQuest Next is one of the most promising games currently in development. That is, SOE have made a lot of promises of what the game will be capable of but we’ve seen exceedingly little of it in action. You can be among the first to see if the developer has managed to follow through and create a destructible MMO that does away with the D&D ruleset and static design model we’ve come to know so well.
Well, sort of.
SOE have begun selling Founder’s Packs for EverQuest Next Landmark. The offshoot project that will precede EverQuest Next.
Riot to move into "bodaciously productive" new workspace a la Pixar and Google
CommentWe’ve meticulously tracked the growth of League of Legends as it's unapologetically burst through every invisible barrier holding back online gaming. We applauded as the LCS found a new venue alongside the NBA in the LA Staples Center, and cheered on the pros now recognised as proper athletes in the eyes of the US government.
What we haven’t been keeping an eye on is its developers, whose girth has grown in tandem with their game. So much so that they’re having to unbuckle their belt and find a new place to live.
Open-world survivalist horror meets the Oculus Rift in The Forest
Comments2Survival horror means struggling to line up a shot on a zombie because your PlayStation controller is a bit funky. It’s mostly something that happened in the ‘90s.
Survivalist horror means scraping together scant defence against the emergent threats audibly moving about the woods outside. In both technology and design, it couldn’t be more now. It’s defined by games like The Forest - part Tomb Raider, part Minecraft, and all a bit much. Am I okay to crawl under my desk now?
Planescape Producer’s Deathfire: Ruins Of Nethermore
By John Walker on November 11th, 2013 at 9:00 am.
Guido Henkel may not be one of the most immediately familiar names, but there’s a good chance you’ve played a game he’s worked on. As well as being co-creator of the German RPG series Realms Of Arkania, he also just happened to produce a game called Planescape: Torment, and had a hand in Fallout 2. Oh, and he’s the guy from the front cover of Planescape! And now he’s after some of that sweet, sweet Kickstarter cash to fund a new fantasy roleplayer in the Grimrock mould. And it couldn’t have a more RPG name: Deathfire: Ruins Of Nethermore.
