1) It dilutes the conversation/Removes focus I like to think of threads almost as serving a lasting transcript. You can read it years later and depending on how good the thread/discussion was, really get something out of it. Tell me, years later, will someone be able to read through the entire thread and learn something from it? Given that there's not even a single topic? 2) It just becomes filled with trivial conversations. Like you said, people just banter and joke around in that thread. Also, by the same people too. Your giant threads become a place where a small minority who were sticked with the thread from start to finish to make inside jokes and have random chit chat. I believe that chatrooms are lot more useful medium than threads. 3) They clog up the forum. It's not really that a single giant thread is a problem, but that multiple giant threads that last forever are problems. They clog up the forum, either by being bumped up constantly or being stickied. Again, going back to point 1, it makes a lot more sense to have threads centered around a specific topic. As for my contributions, it's that I try and learn from mistakes. I've made bad threads and posts in the past, and I still do. But that's why I try to excercise self restraint and be critical. I think your spelling and grammar mistakes is symptomatic of the problems I find in you. You need to slow down. I really don't mean that as an insult. It's a tough lesson I've learned years ago, and still am learning. Take your time when writing your post and try to improve them as much as you can before posting that submit button. |
That is fine if you dont like them but it doesnt mean other people dont like them. XBO Nation actually has updates on the front page btw so you dont have to read through the comments. Pezus Updates his often as well. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=164905&page=1#
And yeah i do make a lot of mistakes when typing. I typically don't read over my comments once I get finished typing (unless I am doing work for college )and just submit. I am aware of that but I do agree with you in that case :)
