It's the full 360/PS3 game running on the same game engine. There's a fair whack of content and yep online races. I've finished it all on Medium and done a few of the events on Hard.

Yeah forget Sonic Free Riders that game was gah!, the Sumo ones (Sonic and Sega Allstars Racing and Sonic and Allstars Racing: Transformed) are pretty much the best kart racers without Mario in the title. Transformed is better than the original though because it's not such a blatent MK clone. The transformations genuinely alter the gameplay mechanics, particulaly when transforming to a plane, you can suddenly travel in absolutely any direction and the stages open right up.

you'd make a good sales man, so far from this thread I'll be looking to pick up the next copies of Gravity Rush and Sonic Racers:Transformed the next time I have the money for it.
