My prediction is that the next Nintendo Direct will be the one to uncork the 2014 bottle.
I predict it will come on roughly the 19th of November, placing it just before the release of Super Mario 3D World. It will begin with some sort of surprise announcement of some big deal available for those who buy a Wii U by the end of this year, probably including those who already own it (like, say, a free game).
This will be followed by Super Mario 3D World information, a major effort to sell the game to potential Wii U owners. But it will be the opening salvo.
After this, Nintendo will begin to announce a number of third-party games coming in the first three months of 2014. There will be at least one major exclusive, and a few minor exclusives, plus reveals of Wii U versions of a number of titles already announced for other systems.
A quick pivot to 3DS will see talk of A Link Between Worlds, Pokemon Bank, and the Miiverse update (which will probably go live on the day of the ND).
Then some new Smash Bros footage, probably with a reveal of either Zelda (for ALBW), Yoshi (representing the greater Mario franchise), or a third party character (Rayman, perhaps?).
A few more "housekeeping" kind of announcements will be made, like the release of Wii Sports Club Golf by the end of the year, some new DLC for a few titles, something about StreetPass Mii Plaza for 3DS, etc.
And then closing with a completely new announcement, a new game from a classic franchise, although I don't know whether it'll be Wii U or 3DS (or both). I could see it being F-Zero 3D, for instance (3D view on upper screen, map view on lower screen), or Ice Climbers for Wii U, or a totally new franchise that might involve both. Or maybe Pokemon for Wii U. It'll be out of the blue, at least.
Probably won't happen that way, but it's fun to make predictions.
