You don't think the $100 difference is the biggest reason? The PS3 at $499-$599 was high priced but it was still supported by its fanbase. Not as much as the 360, but it was never too far off and it's always been the higher priced console. I think there are a lot of people out there where price matters over brand and then there are those that might keep the PS4 as their multiconsole system with it being more powerful, us knowing what we know now. With how good of a job Microsoft did at brainwashing people into thinking Xbox Live is better just because they're paying to use online, something that's no small number, these people are sure to stay loyal to Microsoft and will get an Xbox One before the PS4 and may never get a PS4. So the Xbox One definitely won't lack in any sales, it's just going to be second place to the Playstation I think. |
To be fair, I don't think this had much to do with it, don't get me wrong, it certainly has a "Blast Processing" type marketing tool to it, but I think it was just another way for the rabid PS2 fanboys not having to admit it was the PS3's launch price that made them pull a Seinfeld reaction.
Typical PS2-360 transitionee: "Uh, I got the 360 cus of good online bro"
Me: "Really? I don't see your original Xbox anywhere, and your PS2's HDD bay is looking emptier than the aftermath of a bull in a China shop.."
Them: "uh, online wasn't that big last gen bro"
*I point to Halo 2 still going strong until 2010*
Them: ....
