Project CARS Will Support Nvidia’s APEX Tech
Project CARS fans, get ready for some more news about your favourite racing game. Slightly Mad Studios’ Ian Bell recently revealed on NeoGAF that this next-gen racer will support Nvidia’s APEX tech. Although we don’t have more details about it – and don’t know whether this feature will be coming on next-gen consoles or will remain exclusive to the PC – we can only imagine what smoke and rain will look like when powered by it. Let’s hope that Nvidia and Slightly Mad Studios will reveal more in the coming weeks. Ian Bell Christopher Dorn have also shared some – older – tech videos from Nvidia, showcasing what APEX is all about. Enjoy! Continue reading
How A Lifetime Of Heart Disease Birthed Hyper Light Drifter
By Nathan Grayson on November 7th, 2013 at 9:00 pm.
Hyper Light Drifter is looking magnificent. It’s playing quite beautifully too, and you will hear my impressions of it very soon. But first, let’s delve into the stylishly pink wonder’s past, which definitely isn’t all roses. Heart Machine head Alex Preston was born with a number of life-threatening heart defects, and he’s spent his life alternatively triumphing over them and falling at their feet. Hyper Light Drifter is, in large part, inspired by those struggles – a swarm of ideas that have been flitting and buzzing about in Preston’s mind for as long as he can remember. It was only this year, however, that he finally realized he *had* to breathe life into this game. Good ideas are infinite, but time, unfortunately, is painfully limited.
Week in Tech: Flicker-free Screens, AMD Noise, Nvidia 780 Ti
By Jeremy Laird on November 7th, 2013 at 8:00 pm.
Suffering from headaches, tired eyes and all-round gaming fatigue? Must be that flickering LCD monitor ripping up your retinas. No idea what I’m on about? BenQ would have you believe flickering LCD monitor backlights are the new evil and it has the solution. Flicker-free backlight tech. I’ve tried it and can reveal whether it’s the next big thing after 120Hz-plus panels. It’s not. Next! Graphics. AMD and Nvidia are currently squelching about and looking grumpy following of one of their traditional pissing contests. An unpleasant image but it’s good news because it means things are very closely matched. Still, we need to tidy up a few details after all the new GPU launches and some last minute changes including AMD’s Radeon R9 290 and its dodgy cooling and final specs on the Nvidia Geforce GTX 780 Ti. Diary: Never Been Half-Lifed, Part One
By Cara Ellison on November 7th, 2013 at 7:00 pm.
In the depths of late night despair you might sometimes lie awake thinking about how you are a life-long PC gamer and have never played through the original 1998 PC darling Half-Life. The thought lingers on you like some grotesque bug with the ability to whisper: ‘You are an impostor. You are fake. You are phoney.’ Well even if you don’t have terrible self-esteem, I do. I’m like Drew Barrymore in Never Been Kissed. Except the kiss is Half-Life. And Gordon Freeman is that guy from Alias that ends up kissing Drew Barrymore awkwardly on a baseball pitch.
Or whatever.
Here’s my first time with Half-Life, documented in badly made videos recorded whilst I was travelling Europe.
Let’s Sing, Suggests New PC Karaoke Game
By John Walker on November 7th, 2013 at 2:00 pm.
One of the best things about PC gaming is the paucity of karaoke games. Oh, what’s this? Curses. Voxler Games have just announced the release date of Let’s Sing. Let’s not, eh?
Oh, okay, my loathing of karaoke is not shared by, well, anyone else as far as I can tell. So perhaps you’re desperate for a way for your PC to hear your pitchy screeches, which you’ll be able to do on the 12th December? However, we all may want to agree to raise an eyebrow at their peculiar claim of being “the first karaoke game for PC”. Um.
