Sales don't change anything about the hardware/design. Apart from when successive revisions are gimped to cut costs and you end up with the abomination that is the Wii Mini and the revised Vita model :( The best TVs you can buy certainly come nowhere near close to matching the sales of the best selling TVs. |
Bad analogy when talking consoles.
Too many people think consoles themselves are the Fiesta or Ferarri. That is not how it is.
IT'S THE GAMES.
Lets use your TV example. Lets say I have a time machine and go 100 years into the future and bring back the top of the line tv from that time period. Hardware wise it woudl run circles around any tv in todays world, BUT it probably can't watch a single channel or play any games or watch a single movie. So what good is it? It's basically just a fancy decoration on the wall. Or whatever tv's are like in future. But I doubt you could just plug your PS4 into it, most likely uncompattable cables, same for caple tv or whatever.
That's how you should look at a gaming console. Doesn't matter how technically amazing a console mafy be, if it doesn't do what it's meant to do "PLAY GAMES" then its just an expensive decoration.
Now the Vita has 6 million consumers, so obviously some people think its more than a decoration. But at the moment the general consensus, which sales show, is that the 3DS is the BETTER console.
