Actually, it's set up to not require 2 analogue sticks. Compensating for a design choice Nintendo made with the 3DS. Developers work with what they have got.

There is no such thing as a "handheld experience". Some games may be better suited to portable gaming than others, but a game is a game regardless of it's platform.

But you only need to look at the number of people who cite Starfox 3D and Ocarina of Time 3D as great handheld experiences to see that this is true. Actually they're just home console experiences from 15 years ago which Nintendo's handheld hardware has only just got to the point where it can run it.
