Ragnarok Odyssey sold more in the US than Resistance Burning Skies. It's showing 0 sales in Europe though, so not sure if it didn't sell in Europe or if it's undertracked. The point is, the game sold just as well in the west or almost as they did in Japan. So there's no reason we shouldn't get more Japanese games. Publishing costs are far less than development costs. Atleast the Japanese releases all sell a decent amount in the west. Most western games don't sell crap in Japan yet most still get Japanese releases. People always talk about shipping and localization costs for games that are making their way to the west, games that sell 200,000 easily(Tales,) but almost every US release has a Japanese release, most of them make next to no sales, and what about the localization, shipping, and packaging costs for those games? Japanese sales numbers for popular western releases. For multiplatform games, the sales are both PS360 numbers. Dragon Age Origins(110,000,) Dragon Age 2(60,000,) Skyrim(340,000,) Oblivion(240,000,) Uncharted 2(210,000,) Uncharted 3(190,000,) Heavy Rain(60,000,) Beyond: Two Souls(30,000.) Games that are just as text heavy as your average JRPG. Yet not only do we not get Japanese RPGs, we don't get Japanese games that would otherwise sell over here that aren't RPGs. |
Did you read the OP? Whether Japanese releases in the West are a good business decision or not are not the topic of conversation. I don't even know why did you post the third and fourth paragraph.
OP states that there is an easy way to save the Vita in the West. Localise those unlocalised Japanese games and localise more overall. I disagree, I don't think it would be impactful. You?
So it is happening...PS4 preorder.
Greatness Awaits!
