FFX-2 gets a lot of flack from folks in these forums but I always found it to be quite decent. It is a much better sequel than XIII-2, as it stays connected with the original game's story as opposed to retconning it.
FFX-2 has a faster paced turnbased system, and probably the smoothest and most fun "job class system". You can turn off the transformation intros if they really bug you, me , i'm a sucker for Henshins lol :P
The Characters? they are probably the weakest links here. Not in development but in dialogue. Most Rikku's super girly nature cheapens the affair entirely. Luckily Payne represents testosterone in this party. Yuna's promotion from Summoner to all around beacon of hope for the people is an interesting one. Lenne and Shuyin's story is also quite poetic.
The story is actually quite profound. Deals a lot with the Fayths as well as the Origins of Sin from the first game. It gives a lot of ode to old characters and plotlines.
It has a plethora of cool sidemissions and mini games to play. The onle game in the series close to the amount of "extra" you can do in it is FFVII due to the Gold Saucer. Many plot based side missions to flesh out the story even more.
So I don't know if you played it or not, or even if you did. Everyone should give the game another chance.
And don't forget. One of the best Theme Songs(and moment) in the series....
