The price. Going for $249 was a huge risk for Nintendo and it almost killed the system.

Not just the price, the system's innards, its quite different form what else is on the market. Very quirky device, like the WiiU its designed in a way that requires you to tap into the device to get the most outta it. Except its pretty different from the WiiU.

Nothing like the Xbox One and its esramn though. That's giving people a headache

I fail to see how that is a risk though? Having quirky innards is hardly relevant to the average consumer. Sure the price was a risk, in the same way the Vita's price was a risk, but it's not a risk in the sense of adding a feature to the console itself that could actually effect it's fate (such as the WiiMote. Had that not been liked, the entire console would have drowned).

So please, name me one feature the 3DS has that could be considered a tremendous risk. The upgraded graphics weren't, that's expecting. An analog stick was expecting (though many hoped for 2). The 3D was lackluster to many, but can be termed off.
