You need to think long term. Gamers aren't forced to buy both at the same time. I could really see a lot of core gamers picking up PS4s this year, and buying Vitas next holiday. Plus Wii U should be doing better by then so multiplats between it and Vita+PS4 could become a thing.

The saviour for the vita is the vita tv. $100 is a total steal for a system but it needs more dev support now. Thankfully I could see Vita tv being a sweetspot for A and AA developers where they can flourish more with a lower budgets and not have to worry about AAA developers trying to compete with them in the portable space. The vita exactly fills in the gap by having higher budgeted titles than the 3DS while also being much cheaper than a console to develop for and hell it's even cheaper than the WII U. The vita is going to be very popular where countries are pretty poor to afford games.

Oh Vita.TV is super interesting and honestly I have no clue how the market will respond to it. This is the first time ever that a company is releasing two home consoles at the same time. It's also the first time ever that a company is releasing a home console weaker than the previous gen's home console. Also it's the first time a home console and a portable have identical games. Through in that it's the first time a home console can stream games from a different home console, and it's just crazy to try and predict its future.

But I'm kinda crazy anyway so here's my Vita.TV prediction:
Huge success!!! It manages to have its own market separate from PS3 and PS4, while blending with them as well.
