Not true. At least, not for me. When they had the reveal and E3 and touted all the things we've been asking for from the PS3 (cross game chat, cross game invites, your own music behind the games, etc.), I was excited because it was a new feature that Playstation owners didn't have. Now, not only can you not use your own MP3s....PS4 won't even read audio CDs or read your external HDD, in what I guess is a push to get people to use their media services. It's not that music can't be played in the background, but rather your own music can't play. Pay for a $60 Music Unlimited membership and you can play as much of "your" music while you game as you want.
I can kinda understand that. They want to make their music service bigger, better, etc. But the fact that you can't even put your own music onto the PS4s HDD is just ludicrous. Can't even use a PS4 as a CD player. Don't say "nobody cared" because, sure, you could get a boombox or just use your computer, but Playstation is now a media center, hooked up to your TV, surround sound, etc. Sometimes I don't wanna hunch over my laptop to listen to music. Sometimes I like to hear the bass in the next room
