It backfires eight times out of ten after somebody did it in recent memory. In Stafford's case, it was lopsided the other way around.

His own teammates were unprepared, and thus he still barely made it. Faking a spike to get the defense offguard was a great idea. Faking a spike to get his own team offguard, not so much.
