That's one of the main reasons I love Heavy Rain. Beyond has a couple meaningful decisions right at the end. Though it's more of a "push button ending" like Deus Ex: HE or Mass Effect (which did a great job with decisions effecting things until the end). This is the series that should take that risk though. It's not uber graphics focused so they could build optional characters/environments/animations without so much added cost. A game like Beyond that is so pretty all the time and is supposed to show off hardware I feel has SOMEWHAT of an excuse to not make 20 branching paths because it would probably add millions of dollars of optional content. Though it's not really a valid reason because replay value would be increased and maybe more people would buy it. |
Yeah, I loved Mass Effect as well though in many cases I don't think the choices mattered that much, but they certainly changed the way the characters reactions to you. More importantly, they made it worth a second playthrough since the game was so fun anyway.
As for Beyond, its still sitting on my shelf because the talk of the lack of choices it making me far less excited
