The problem is that some of the rumours will be true and some will be false, but its more of a problem if a site becomes too powerful... then an incorrect rumour can be very harmful to an individual or company... which isnt particularly nice.
I enjoy reading Neogaf (though they havent approved my account)... i find the different things fascinating, but I can see the frustration when truths get denied when they are obvious and when rumours/false information is lept on. It's just not good either way.
