It really depends on what games interest you, If you like Nintendo first party games then I would say that the WiiU is worth it as there is a bunch of quality titles out already and a lot of great games coming.

I'd say if you do like the content WiiU has to offer, then buy WiiU at Xmas, I'd wait on getting a PS4/XB1 if you are thinking about that since nearly every system has a software drought for a while after launch, WiiU has good games available and a lot of Nintendo's biggest games coming in 2014.

I think it's important to note that I think WiiU is best as a second console, with a PS4/XB1 being your main console for next gen since Nintendo console's miss out on a lot of third party content, That being said I do think it will take a little while for PS4/XB1 to really get going fully. So that's why I suggest WiiU this year, then PS4/XB1 sometime in 2014/15.

But yeah, that's what I would do in your situation. But ultimately it's about what games you prefer and if you feel WiiU offers what you are seeking in a console :)
