The release of zelda windwaker and the price drop has boosted wii u sales but they are still significantly below 360 and the boost is likely temporary. I'm a wii u owner and have to say all evidence points to a console about the same power as current gen so pricing still seems high. Gamepad is a little to large too.

I personally think the pricing has to be even lower before the wii u starts shifting in significant numbers. It's quite possible after launch ps4 and xbox one sales figures will reduce more than expected and they will be forced into a price drop situation. The market is saturated quite frankly.

I think in the UK at least the wii u is going to have to be significantly below £200 to shift in large numbers. The UK is the xbox's most successful european country sales wise. Some retailers have already abandoned the wii u due to low sales.

I just can't see the wii u doing huge business this christmas, the focus seems to be on ps4 and xbox one. I personally don't see pikmin or wonderful 101 doing that much business. I think it's mainly about Mario 3D driving sales really and anticipation for mario kart in the new year. Quirky titles like Wonderful 101 that don't have particularly high review ratings aren't going to sell the system. Rayman legends is a game that is also 1080p on 360 and PS3 and plays as well except it has different bits to replace the wii u gamepad features. It's a game widely available elsewhere to the same standard so again I don't think that is a system seller. Looking on this site they claim 230,000 units sold across all formats (excluding pc). That is a pitiful amount for such a brilliant game. Windwaker has done 350,000 units so far but clearly has only recently been launched but that figure isn't amazing to say the least.

I would say there is still a significant weakness in available software for wii u and interest in wii u is at fairly low levels. Nintendo still has a lot of work in getting more triple A titles to the console and reducing the console even further in price. It is highly damaging that they couldn't get Mario kart ready to launch before christmas.
