Dude...Mark Cerny was even talking about that as one of the reasons he's worked for Sony so long after leaving Sega in the 90's. They make a little bit of everything and reinvest in what works. They are always looking for something new. 

Yeah, they all do that.

MS to a lesser extent, but this is their third generation. They'll probably come into their own this coming gen...maybe.
