The Witcher 3 date posted on Amazon is either a placeholder or the release date

Amazon may have given away the release date for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, if the September 30, 2014 date is accurate and not a placeholder. The only date provided for the title is “sometime next year” on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Regardless of whether it is accurate or not, you can pre-order the game through the link – and if it is accurate, you know what to buy me for my birthday. It’s probably just a placeholder, though. Thanks, Evil Avatar.

RIFT servers in Russia are shutting down today

Russian servers in RIFT are shutting down today, as Trion Worlds will no longer be supporting the localized version. Belver Online, the company responsible for the localized version, is offering players compensation via other online games it operates. The Russian version RIFT saw many players migrate to the Eruopean servers after the game went free-to-play, but the subscription-based model was still available in the region – until today. Trion has no plans to produce its own, Russian-localized client. Thanks, Massively.

Battlefield 4 footage shows what happens when the levee breaks in Flood Zone

Comment

The first few hours of Battlefield 4 for many folk will be spent hopping through the different maps to see how they will dramatically change. The Shanghai level’s set around a collapsing tower block, there’s one level in an abandoned weapons factory and the unexploded bomb it houses, and Flood Zone? Well that’s a city built below sea level. It sits behind a less than impenetrable levee.

A rocket or two, as seen in the footage below, will send it crashing down and water will pour through.

7 Days to Die Greenlight page removed from Steam over Killing Floor kerfuffle

Comments3

Well this is a blooming mess. The Fun Pimps, developers of 7 Days to Die, have been hit with a DMCA notice, their Greenlight page has been taken down and they are now in a legal tango with Tripwire Interactive, creators of Killing Floor. All this appears to be down to communication problems, with both The Fun Pimps and Tripwire Interactive being victims.

One of Tripwire's models from Killing Floor was stolen, repainted and sold as an original asset on the Unity Store. While purchasing placeholder assets for 7 Days to Die, The Fun Pimps purchased the stolen model and use it in the game. Tripwire's lawyer - who calls himself a pet pitbull - got Steam to take down the 7 Days to Die Greenlight page after the developer discovers the stolen asset in game, and now the only person not suffering is the thief.

Don't Starve: The Screecher has all the scares

Comment

As if Klei's Don't Starve wasn't unsettling enough, the developer has just added a new horror mod, The Screecher. And it's free for everyone, which is lovely. Well, it would be lovely if it wasn't designed to make you soil yourself.

If you're tempted by the prospect of becoming a nervous wreck, but you haven't already picked up Don't Starve, you're in luck: it's 50 percent off on Steam right now. Grab it for a measly six of your human pounds.

SimCity: Cities of Tomorrow comes with more maps for everyone

Comment

SimCity: Cities of Tomorrow might not allow you to build actual cities, but it will be launching with a bunch of new regions for players to construct their tiny toy towns in. Four new regions will rise out of the oceans, all tailored around the new features being introduced in the futuristic expansion.

The maps will be available to all players for free, including those that don't buy Cities of Tomorrow, meaning that you can still play with those who own the expansion.

Team Dakota want you to sign up for the Project Spark Windows 8 Beta. Right now. Project Spark is Microsoft’s answer to Little Big Planet; it’s a game in which you make games. It works with both Kinect and Microsoft’s Smartglass app to help players build environments, create objects and people, and share these worlds with the larger community. Think Minecraft, but friendlier, and  with more attention to detail.

On top of this is the introduction of trinkets, a new free item with a dedicated slot, so "all team members can contribute to vision control without sacrificing other areas of development".

CCP On How Valkyrie Will Fuse With EVE, Evolve

By Nathan Grayson on October 25th, 2013 at 10:00 pm.

EVE Valkyrie has caught enough eyes to populate the world’s weirdest, most Halloween-friendly gumball machine, but let’s be honest here: we don’t actually know all that much about it. Yes, it’s glittering, glorious dogfighting with a thing that sounds amusingly similar to “Octopus” strapped to your face, but EVE is more than just a series of battles. Much, much more. It’s a universe of politics, corporations, and player-powered intrigue. The spaceships are nice, yes, but they’re only one piece of the highly fractured intergalactic puzzle – pawns in a game of blood and money. So where does Valkyrie fit into all of that? How will it integrate with EVE as is? Will we eventually be able to explore in first-person, or just exist in the universe as we please? And what about Dust 514? Where does it end up? I asked CCP’s David Reid, and he returned fire with the most potent space laser of all: answers.

Banished Is Nearly Done And Why Can’t It Be Out Nowww?

By Nathan Grayson on October 25th, 2013 at 2:00 pm.

If you are a connoisseur of modern-ish culture like myself, you’ll no doubt remember a moving, soulful ballad by the Backstreet Boys entitled “Quit Playing Games (With My Heart).” I can’t help but hear it every time I find a new trailer for splendiferous-looking rural city builder Banished, seeing as a) each brief glimpse feels like a cruel game against my heart, because b) my heart desperately wants to play this game, and c) na na na na na I should’ve known from the start na na na na baby oh. So, good news and bad news. The good news is that Banished is in its final stages of development, and Shining Rock has released a spiffy new video to celebrate. The bad news, however, is that there’s still no firm release date.

Nvidia Tech Videos Try To Illustrate The Difference Between G-Sync & V-Sync

During its recent press event, Nvidia tried to illustrate the difference between G-Sync and V-Sync. As you may already know, G-Sync cannot be captured via regular cameras. Therefore, Nvidia claimed that a perfect V-Sync video (constant 60fps v-sync) is what G-Sync basically offers, even when the actual in-game framerate drops at 40fps. In order to showcase the huge difference, the green team compared the simulated G-Sync experience with a ‘real-world’ V-Sync experience, and PCGamesHardware was able to captured two examples from this comparison.
