Second half of the penultimate paragrpaph sums it up well. Early adopters are fans...

Who knew Playstation had more vociferous and loyal fans that will jump in early? Shocker.

The long game is very different.

Is it? The PS3s launch was dismal and was $200 more than the 360, yet the "long game" still resulted in Playstation selling more than Xbox.

Even with the strides that Microsoft made last gen, it needs to be accepted that the Playstation brand has more appeal than the Xbox brand. If the at one point $600, "no gaemz" PS3 could catch up to the much cheaper 360, which in 2007 had what many consider to be one of the greatest years in gaming (with the release of Halo 3, Crackdown, Mass Effect, Bioshock (exclusive at the time), PGR4, Forza 2, and others) and eventually outsell it, what makes you think that that brand recognition won't take off and never look back, this time, without the terrible launch and much more hype behind it?
