Nah, as long as the consoles are still selling then the generation isn't over.
|
By that logic it's still the 6th gen.
Gens last until they are succeeded.

Don't be silly, you know that not how things work. Its not Sony or MS fault the Wii has already blew its load. Ps3 and 360 are still selling strong so they are still relevant.
People still care about DS still trying to outsell the Ps2 we dont just say "No" sales don't count anymore because the gen is over. Lmao stupidest thing I've ever heard.

If they started selling N64s again now, it wouldn't suddenly be the 5th gen again, and the N64 wouldn't have won the 5th gen if it outsold the PS1 next year.
To win a generation you need to the the biggest market share. If PS3 sells 110m or whatever in a few year's time, the market will belong to the 8th gen consoles by then, so PS3 will never had had a winning share.

NES and SNES sold for longer than the N64 :P
Oh so the SNES lost to the sega genisis now? because it didn't pass it in sales until after the next gen launched?
To "win" you just need to sell more. It's mostly up to the market when a console stops selling unless a manufacturer stops selling it early.

I have always seen it as the generation for a console ends once it's successor is out and the next full gen starts once all competitors released their new systems if they are able. The ps3 passing the wii in 3-4 years from now wouldnt make it the winner of the 7th gen imo it just kept running once the race was over.
