Anybody else think Bravely Default is FF 3's spiritual sequel?

Since when? Actually no they don't. Because they aren't main series. The numbered FF's are main because they started the whole series and started to get sequels in form of a numerical system. Why do you think that they are the most hyped by people  in the whole series. 

numbers are just that, numbers. it's the contents of the game that define if it's a sequel or not. and the so called "spin offs" are no less final fantasy than the numbered ones.

Michael yet again countered what you said. The spin-offs doesn't have a connection to the numbered ones, while the numbered ones are connceted and started the series. Thus making it mainline.
