You can't compare them with Mario they are obviously better games but although they have flaws I think the critics are kind of harsh with sonic.

They've been for years.

I'll buy the game later today and judge it for myself. I quite enjoyed past Sonic games (even the dreaded 06 for the hilarity that ensues when you play it with some friends that tell you their impressions of the game), so I think I'm gonna enjoy this one, too. We'll see.
