Its a smart move. But I dont know how much effect it will have on gamers and whether it will persuade them to get an X1 instead of PS4. Most people still wont know what dedicated servers are and arent likely to make a decision based on. Still it gives MS and the X1 a positive vibe and goodwill from devs and that alone may be worth the cost ( especially if they manage to put other positive features in place (family sharing).
