Sony and Microsoft are targeting their weaker markets to stay competitive rather than solidifying their grounds. Kaz Hirai recently announced that they're focusing to solidify their stronger markets (Japan/EU) but releasing PS4 a week after the competition in EU and a week earlier in the US is somewhat contradicting his plan.

Nevertheless I believe Sony played it right with Playstation, while Microsoft seems overconfident if they give Sony a week headstart in the US given Call of Duty: Ghosts will be a week-timed exclusive. I reckon a lot of the typically impatient COD fans might jump to Playstation.

Xbox ONE is doing fairly good in Europe. But it's nowhere near enough to outperform Playstation. Microsoft should've focused on the US because from the looks of it, Playstation 4 will dominate everywhere.

Impatient fans will just buy COD:Ghosts for the 360 and upgrade for $10 two weeks later for the Xbox One. They won't be jumping ship to PS4 just to play Ghosts a week earlier on a next gen console.
