Forums - Sony - Roy Morgan: Aussies set sights on PS4

Gamers across Australia are eagerly awaiting the launch of PlayStation 4 on November 29, with 600,000 of them already intending to purchase it, according to July-August 2013 findings from Roy Morgan Research. Excitement surrounding the new Xbox One, due for release a week earlier, is not quite as fervent: 325,000 Australians aged 14+ are planning to buy it. Among game console owners, 8% are in line for the PlayStation 4 and 4% for the Xbox One. Just 1% of console owners have their sights set on a Nintendo Wii U (released last year).

“As we approach the launch of the next-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles, it’s clear that the marketing focus of each brand and console differ dramatically. Sony continue to target heavy gamers with the PlayStation 4, promising higher graphics performance and a range of new titles. Microsoft appear to be promoting the Xbox One as a multi-dimensional home entertainment device.

“Besides the obvious benefit of being slightly cheaper than its competitor, PlayStation 4 has probably inspired more intent to purchase because it appeals to committed gamers, a group that tends to adopt and upgrade technology earlier than the more mainstream market that Microsoft are targeting with Xbox One.

“Those intending to buy the Sony PlayStation 4 are more likely to be buying the console for themselves, whereas those planning to buy the Xbox One are more likely to want to share it or purchase it for someone else.”

Thats pretty good. I'm impressed with that ONE number. ONE was supposed to be obliterated outside US.

Now give it time, Halo and other things will help the gap will close.

Excellent.

Australia is more like 50/50 between PS360... UK is 360 land and everything else is PS3 land in PAL territories.

Yeh I thought the ONE would be sitting around 200k. Over half is pretty good.

When do both launch in Australia ?

Wish we could see another glory era of PlayStation, maybe PS4 will be that console to bring it back.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

Xbone: 22nd
PS4: 29th

For me that PS4 almost doubles Xbox One in this graphic is a complete victory for Sony, mostly because is still a huge advantage even after xbox one 180.

If ps4 have similar advantage over Europe and the rest of the world, it will be impressive.

This result was expected because after all the xbone didn't differentiate itself from the rest of the HD triplets.

It's articles like this that prove more and more that the Xbox One's main target audience are the masses. Really nothing wrong with that. But when I point that out in a previous sig, the Xbox extremists get butthurt and causes a ban just because the competition is perceivably doing better than the Xbox One. A two day ban compared to being butthurt during an entire span of a console generation... heh. I do strongly believe it's the PS4's focus and cheaper price that's really pushing its potential success. Let's see if Sony can continue to capitalize this through out this gen. And yes, I do adhere to the stance that the WiiU started this new gen of consoles.

Interesting is this:

Primarely targeting the mainstream market while heaving the highest selling price amongst the consoles.

Adventurous, if true.

(This is IF MS's prime strategy is going for the mainstream in the first place.
But isn't Sony's prime strategy also going for the mainstream?
Every company always wants the mainstream.
Only companies like Ferrari don't want the mainstream.
Isn't the difference in perception between the objectives of MS and Sony based on just a different tone of speech of both companies?
Or is there really a fundamental difference in approach because MS came up with all that TV stuff?
I think both companies want the same, and any difference is subtle.)
