Haven't bought W101 yet. But in Zelda its a huge benefit to me.
1) Capability to play off-tv is a MASSIVE benefit in my home for every game. Sure if you're single, no kids etc, then meh, but with a family this is an essential feature.
2) Playing on TV with gamepad makes the game super easy to manage your items/map etc. Its far more convenient that having to pause game.
EDIT: related to mass market talk above. off-tv IS the perfect mass market benefit. mass market for games are families, especially Nintendo games.
