Yup, looks like a dud. A Magic Guard ability/focus sash Alakazam has more uses. Alakazam can take 0 damage from HP  drainers like burn/toxic/stealth rock and can take a hit, since he is really weak on defense. Mega Alakazam hits like a truck, but is susceptable to entry hazards and 1 hit KOs

And where as Alakazam looked like a intimidating Psychic, Mega Alkazam looks way to senior to be considered a badass :P

Focus Sash can be easily Traced if you switch Mega Kazie on a Sturdy mon, works much better than a simple focus sash. And while he's more of a Glass Cannon now, it's a much speedier mofo, so you'll need to have priority moves capable of OHKO it, or that base speed stat will outpace a lot of pokes, even mega. So far it looks like 140/150 Base Speed, that would put Mega Kazie on par with Mewtwo Y speed.

True, but that doesn't take account for the ever popular Choice scarf, which can make even the moderately fast outspeed this guy. There is the off chance that he copies a sturdy, but that relies on a lot of chance. I dunno, I just like to have that security that he will last at least a turn to do some damage. Magic Guard is very nice to have as well.  I am the self proclaimed Alakazam master :)
