Sony has bundled many units of GT5 with consoles. But it was a physical copy.

Free digital copies don't count. Only free physical copies are considered a sale.

You do know that bundled games are not free, right? Bundling has a function; to sell you the console the games are bundled with. So they still make money. Add to that, bundles are often more expensive than the solus version.
