I think people glossed over the article and misunderstand what's going on here.
Correct *me* if I'm wrong.
SE is helping independent developers make their game ideas a reality. Developers pitch ideas, the gamers vote on which ideas are the best, and then SE puts the "best" games up for crowd funding. Assuming the project gets the necessary funds, the developer will create the title and SE will provide the marketing and publishing.
This seems like a great outlet for developers to get their games rolling. Maybe you like Kickstarter better. Maybe you hate crowd funding in general. But to me this appears to be SE just trying to open new doors for game development.
