I find it funny how people now seem to care wich technology is used to online gaming.

Who cares really? If it works, it works. If it doesnt work the publisher will feel the backlash in sales. Given how CoD has been so popular and seems to not be using dedicated servers, i fail to see the point of this argument. Its gamers trying to think they are developers and picking something to hate on. Its incredibly boring.

This is a good point.  COD has some of the worst online lag and lag compensation that I have ever seen, yet sells boatloads every year.  More than the other games combined probably.

So yeah.

If its not an issue for people in general, then it isnt an issue.

And just so you know.... dedicated servers dont eliminate the lag. Its impossible to eliminate lag unless you play LAN on a local network. I also doubt CoD is that bad, otherwise it wouldnt be that popular. Also, you obviously havent played FFXIV to know what lag is.

*** just saw the second half of your post on your edit***

No I have never played FF.  Not a huge fan of in depth RPGs usually, but Ill take your word for it.  Trust me, COD IS that bad, it's just tolerated by most people, including me.  As for not knowing lag.  I used to play games online with dial up dude, I know what lag is ;)  But you are right, you can never eliminate it, just try to reduce it and make it AS CONSISTENT as possible.  That is the key.  Also, host "advantage" can only be mitigated with peer to peer, and only eliminated with dedicated servers.  Another big difference.  Read below for my original reply:

Became a huge issue in MW3 and now BLOPS2.  Problem is the game is overrun by teens and pre teens looking to run with a pistol, quickscope, or one of the other 50 ways to annoy the shit out of people.  /rant

Bad enough that a handful of the really good clan members I used to know are considering waiting on Ghosts.

The problem with peer hosting is that you can literally have a different play experience every match if the host keeps leaving.  Some matches I rock EVERYONE, next match I am literally bottom of the board (same people in the server minus one or two).  Enough to drive you nuts - being insta killed before you even have a chance...  With GOOD (key word) dedicated servers, you can make the experience MUCH more consistent match to match.

Dedicated servers CAN be an advantage.  To be honest, along with a slick GUI, server bandwidth is one of the advantages I expected Microsoft to have going into the new systems.  It appears that Sony has the advantage in terms of raw power locally.  Nothing is really that black and white.

BTW, this is coming from someone who was gaming on PC back in the 90s, and heavily in 2002-5, where you could make your own PC a dedicated server.  Now own all consoles instead... I wish Microsoft and Sony would allow you to make your console a dedicated server when you are not at home, or at the very least allow you to run a program on your PC that created a dedicated server for the game.  That way fans of the community could help out.  That being said, both companies want FULL control of what can and can't be done with their systems, so that will never happen.
