No multiplatform devs will use the cloud knowing half the user base won't access it. What happens when you play offline? Ai and graphics degrade? It is common sense/ No one will take the time to sue something a large portion of the user base won't have access to.
The cloud for gaming right now is many years away. |
who is talking about multiplatform offline graphicly enhanced solo games based on cloud ???
while I'm pretty sure a huge chunck of people having XBL gold have good enough connections for whatever they'll come up with, bcause we are talking only about XBL gold user here, and those are I would guess over half the user base
"what happens when you play offline.... " that's the point my friend... we are talking about cloud based games.... you don't play them offline at all....
and excuse me but they are already a ton of games today that are developped and that interest way less than half the user base just on their style... those two arguments are completely off base...
we are talking about games played exclusively over the cloud (online) for people that can technically use them and the chunk is way enough to warrant games from 1st parties (which are already enough on their own) but also other project some big 3rd parties have wanted to try especially if MS throws some money or lend server time for free for other games in exchange.....
in the realm of turned based RPG I can see it doing impresive stuff with battle renders... you set up your pawns for attack or deffence ( like in a magic card game but with hundreds of thousands of troups) and then a major battle render is calculated on the cloud.... a mix of RTS and RPG... you produce/mine and set up factions localy but battles happen and are render in the clooud because you want to see those thousands of fighters go at it supported by hundreds of cruisers and dozens of dreadnaughts and why not do it by phase and be able to input some command during the fight which are then recalculated in the cloud....
so yeah nobody is talking about better AI/ and especially graphics on a solo campain of gears of war or BF.... we are talking about games that might not rely that much on latency that are online only and more than likely not SP.... in genres that are adapted to that format.... I don't see where is the PR twist really... it's people that when they heard 3X the power available in the cloud imagined that they meant you will be able to play halo 5 SP with 4XBox processing power available to them to have better graphics... I never read that from the PR directly.... they just said you have 3x the processing power available in the cloud, now it's up to devs to come up with great ideas to use them and anybody that expected a crazy FPS with billions of particules and shadows and all the goodies with RL render where just morons.... I'm not expecting that... on the contrary I'm expecting new ideas in genres that are not yet main stream or were reserved to the PC world until now... and that is perfectly feasible and could be very lucrative if done right considering they could use very different business model for that
but as usual I don't know why we argue with you.... if it's not PS4 or PC it's bad anyway no matter what people expect from their console.... to me you can twist any way you want the PS4 it is a great console but it won't be a better product than the XB1 is, to satisfy my personal expectation from a console.... the way Sony presents or executes stuff on their rig is not in line with my personal taste by a long long shot no matter how more powerful it is (and in all honesty talking about power with console is quite ridiculous IMO, they are both bad if you really want to talk about power) as said before the DS terrible format alone warrants me to ever get that console... my hands are litteraly alergic to that pad shape and since way before the XB... but at least you don't see me try to diss the PS4 on your forum when I have plenty to say about what I found absolutely shamefull for a 21st century console.... cause yeah I expect way more than better graphics for games from a console... this is not the 90's any more.....
